Edgecomb accident
A two-vehicle traffic accident on Route 1 in Edgecomb on September 11 resulted in injuries to both drivers. The accident occurred at the intersection of Cross Road at approximately 4:11 p.m.
Pamela Farnsworth, 51, of Newcastle, was alone and traveling north on Route 1 approaching the Cross Road intersection in a 2004 Pontiac minivan. John Pringle, 83, of Wiscasset, was also alone and traveling west on Cross Road approaching Route 1 in a 2006 Mazda minivan.
Pringle failed to stop at the intersection and entered the north bound Route 1 travel lane and into the path of the Farnsworth vehicle. Farnsworth applied her brakes and steered left in an attempt to avoid a collision. Both vehicles collided in the center of Route 1. The Pringle vehicle rotated clockwise and came to rest in the middle of Route1 as the Farnsworth vehicle rotated counter clockwise and came to rest in the Route 1 south bound shoulder.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash and their air bags deployed. Both were transported to Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta for treatment of broken bones, cuts and other non-life-threatening injuries. They were both later transferred to Maine Medical Center in Portland for further treatment.
Edgecomb Fire, Wiscasset Fire & Rescue, Wiscasset Ambulance and Central Lincoln County Ambulance personnel responded to the scene.
The primary investigating officer is Deputy Matthew Day who was assisted at the scene by Sergeant Jason Nein and Detective Terry Michaud.
Speed and alcohol are not considered to be factors in this case.
