Edgecomb fire station to get a fence
Edgecomb’s new fire station will soon have a fence to block lights from the station from shining onto a neighbor’s property.
Construction of the station off Route 27 last year took away a natural buffer for abutter Brent Barter, Edgecomb Selectmen said. Selectmen approved paying for the $4,170, 6-foot-tall, 150-foot-long, hemlock fence at their July 2 meeting.
Board Chairwoman Jessica Chubbuck thanked Barter for his patience.
Reached later, Barter said he had not minded waiting for the fence, because he wanted the town to be able to get the station built. “We’re all in this together,” he said. The old station, which had been located nearby, was “one of the saddest” he has seen, he said.
The fence is “the last piece of the puzzle” for the new station, Chubbuck said. The fire department moved in last year.
Bintliff receives paperwork
The town has now provided Edgecomb Development owner Roger Bintliff with all the documents he requested related to a request that the town pay him tax incentives related to his company’s work, Chubbuck said.
Bintliff maintains the town should stop sending tax incentive payments to the Bank of Maine, and resume sending them to his company.
Nothing has been received from the bank or a court to redirect the money back to Edgecomb Development, selectmen said.
