Eric Sandberg exhibit of handwoven art
Works by weaver Eric Sandberg of Newcastle will be on display at the Skidompha Secondhand Book Shop from Friday, Nov. 14-16, during the shop’s regular open hours, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
Sandberg, who has volunteered at the shop for about eight years, has been weaving for thirty years, mostly for his own pleasure and to give as gifts to family and friends. He favors Scandinavian patterns and geometric designs, woven into household items like tablecloths, dish towels, napkins, coverlets, runners, and placemats.
“My pieces are meant to be used,” Sandberg says. “Any house looks better with handwoven items scattered around.”
During the weekend of his display, Sandberg plans to be at the shop on Saturday and Sunday morning from 9:30 to noon.
The exhibit is part of the Book Shop Artists series. Several local artists are members of the shop’s all-volunteer staff. This series gives them an opportunity to show and sell their work at the shop.
The book shop is located at 17 Backstreet Landing in downtown Damariscotta.
The Skidompha Secondhand Book Shop is a major source of funding for Skidompha Public Library. All items are donated, all staff members are volunteers, and every purchase helps to support the library’s programs and collections. Volunteers welcome donations whenever the shop is open.
