Gloria G. Walter
Gloria Glenice Faulkner was born Jan. 13, 1938, in Bangor, Maine, the only child of Frank D. and Ruby Faulkner (née Blake).
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Walter, and survived by her two daughters and their husbands (Wendy and Gerald Galgan, and Gretchen and Edward Heffernan), and two grandchildren.
Gloria attendedMary Stone School and Bangor High School, where she was described as “one of the best musicians of our class,” and graduated from Bangor Highin 1955. She then attended University of Maine at Orono, majoring in early childhood education, and married Bob the day before they graduated from UMO in 1959.
Gloria and Bob moved to Prairie City, Oregon after graduation. Soon after the birth of their daughter Wendy, they moved to Bangor where their daughter Gretchen was born. After living in Oakfield and Milo, the family moved to the Boothbay Region in 1964and bought their home in Boothbay Harbor in 1965.
Gloria ran a preschool at the family home, drawing on her education training to provide a rich and engaging learning environment for all her young students. Once both her daughters started elementary school, Gloria became a teacher at Boothbay Harbor Elementary School, continuing herteaching position when Boothbay Region Elementary School was opened. She served as vice principal at BRES, then became principal, a role she continued until her retirement. After retiring, Gloria worked with her husband, Bob, in Friar Tuck Enterprises, a lawncare and property management company he founded.
She was a long-time member of the Rotary Club, where she served as the first woman president of the local chapter, and was named Rotarian of the Year for 2000-01. She was also a long-time member of the NEA and MTA.
Gloria was very active in St. Columba’s Episcopal Church in Boothbay Harbor, serving the church in numerous roles, including as a member of the Vestry-at-Large and as first warden. The Church was an extremely important part of her life, and she took great comfort in the spirituality and fellowship she found within the community.
Shehad been living at St. Andrews Village since January 2025. Her familywishes to express their deep gratitude for everyone at the Village who cared for her so well during her stay there.
Gloria passed away at Central Maine Medical Center on July 18, 2025.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either Midcoast Humane in Brunswick or St. Columba’s Episcopal Church in Boothbay Harbor.
A memorial service for Gloria will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 13 at 2 p.m. at St. Columba’s Episcopal Church, 32 Emery Lane, Boothbay Harbor.
