Going 'Wacky' with science
Children that attended “Wacky Kitchen Science Camp” at Seeds of Knowledge Education Center in Wiscasset left the week (July 8-12) with a whole new appreciation for basic ingredients found in kitchens.
While completing some mind-boggling experiments, children learned about many scientific concepts including friction, motion, density, chemical reactions, electrical charges, and states of matter. Watching milk and food coloring appear to come alive with a drop of dish soap in a surface tension experiment was a thrill for the children.
Learning about polymers by poking sharp pencils through a leak proof water-filled plastic bag was another activity that shocked the campers.
Our culminating activity was the challenge to walk on top of dozens of eggs without breaking them, and to our surprise many children were successful, including Mrs. Albert.
It was a wonderful week of learning, experimenting and discovering the fascinating world of science.
A few slots are still available in three upcoming Seeds of Knowledge Education Center camps. Visit www.seedsofknowledgeec.com, email info@seedsofknowledgeec.com, or call Tanya Albert at 207-841-2704 for more information.
