Help preserve local history: a call for volunteers

Thu, 04/18/2019 - 7:15am

Lincoln County Historical Association (LCHA) maintains three historic house museums. Perhaps you have visited The Pownalborough Court House in Dresden or the Old jail in Wiscasset, or the Chapman-Hall House in Damariscotta. If so, you were greeted by a tour guide who has an interest in local history and is using this opportunity to give something back to the local community.

LCHA is now scheduling volunteer tour guides and greeters for the 2019 season. If you would like to learn more about the tales these landmarks have to tell or if you simply enjoy meeting people, this is a great opportunity. You could start as a greeter, registering visitors and chatting with them when another tour is in progress. After a while you might decide to lead tours, although that is not mandatory.

LCHA tour guides and greeters typically spend spend four or six hours a day, twice a month in June, July, August, and September. All three sites are open on Saturdays and Sundays; the Pownalborough Court House in Dresden is also open Tuesday to Friday in July and August.
