Important info on Westport absentee voting
Did you notice the small flags blowing in the breeze on Monday? The Cemetery Committee decorated each gravestone of men and women from Westport Island who died while serving in our Armed Forces. When you’re out for a walk or a drive, stop by the cemeteries and give a salute or offer a prayer.
Important news about absentee voting for the June 28 municipal election: Town Clerk Gaye Wagner says that applications for and absentee ballots for municipal officers and the Wright Property referendum will be available in her office starting this week (actually this past Tuesday, May 28). The RSU 12 School budget ballot will not be included, but will be available on June 11 (following the final school budget hearing in Whitefield on June 8). If you know now or think you won’t be able to come on Friday, June 28, to vote in person, drop by the town office during regular hours and get your absentee ballot.
Don’t forget to come early to get good seats at the WMS gym – the Middle School bands and choruses will be performing this Thursday at 6:30 p.m., and next Wednesday, the Fifth Grade musical, “The Incredible Westward Movement,” will start at 6 p.m. also in the WMS gym.

This Monday when the sun finally showed up, many of us probably jumped on mowers, grabbed trowels or paint brushes, and got busy. After getting a good start on mowing, I walked around to admire one of my favorite wildflowers which grow on a steep pitch between the woods and lawn – it’s Solomon’s Seal, with beautiful arching stems and pairs of small nodding flowers. It’s lovely amidst the crowd of crazy blackberries. Squirting Ben’s and trying to outrun mosquitoes at mewbarnes2@yahoo.com or 207-882-6055.
