Dear Editor:

I urge Wiscasset residents to attend an upcoming Special Town Meeting to vote on the funding for Wiscasset public schools for the coming year – from July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027.

The meeting will take place on Wednesday, April 29, in the Wiscasset Middle High School Gym, beginning at 6 p.m.

At the meeting, Wiscasset residents will be asked to vote on each category item in the proposed budget to determine the maximum amount that can be spent for each line item – such as Regular Education or Special Education.

It is important for citizens to attend this meeting and express their views, as the five-member Wiscasset School Committee, after weeks of deliberation, remains divided with 3 to 2 votes on most items.

On Tuesday, June 9, at a meeting at the Community Center, Wiscasset citizens will vote by secret ballot to either approve or reject the final budget adopted at the April 29 meeting.
