LCTV is making strides
Lincoln County Television Channel 7, our local community television station, currently reaches approximately 11,200 individuals via Time Warner Cable TV and untold numbers worldwide via the internet at www.lctv.org.
Established by a small group in 1991, LCTV has since grown by leaps and bounds most significantly in the past few years.
“LCTV’s capabilities have greatly expanded with the completion of the Media Center building in 2009, additional access hours, and upgraded equipment,” Station Manager Mary Ellen Crowley said.
Last year, in particular, was one of growth. Among the list of Channel 7’s 2011 achievements were: hiring a part-time video production instructor; providing training to 23 new volunteer producers; producing the first LCTV online auction and TV show (raising more than $4,000 for new cameras, microphones, and editing stations); making improvements to the Media Center studio; and providing technical assistance for the live stream telecast of the Damarsicotta Pumpkinfest and Regatta at the Lincoln Theater.
In addition, LCTV continues to add local programming. The Town of Newcastle joined the towns of Wiscasset, Waldoboro, Damariscotta and Bristol in videotaping government meetings, producing between them 2324 hours of programming in 2011.
Maine Music, created by Alan Lowe of Waldoboro, showcases the talents of local musicians while providing training for aspiring producers.
Several local churches air their weekly services on channel 7, providing comfort and spiritual support to the home bound, visitors and those in the hospital.
Wuzzup and Spectrum Generation’s Lunch and Learn, continue to entertain and inform with new shows every week.
More improvements and local shows are planned for 2012. “Starting this fall, we will be able to alert the community to emergency weather conditions, road closings and school and event closings and delays with a crawl at the bottom of the screen that won’t interrupt regular programming,” Crowley said. “We are also looking for volunteers to help produce a daily news program.”
