Come celebrate the “Golden Age of Hollywood” at Damariscotta’s Lincoln Theater as we gear up for season three of Lincoln Theater’s Classic Film Club, with screenings beginning Oct. 3. This season features  incredible films of the 1930s; a decade when a trip to the cinema provided an escape from the economic effects of the Depression, and gave audiences thrills through on-screen gangsters, lighthearted comedies, and more. Join in on the fun as Lincoln Theater brings six of these incredible films back to the big screen.

Kicking off this third season of Lincoln Theater’s Classic Film Club, on Thursday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. and Friday, Oct. 4 at 2 p.m., is the 1932 Academy Award Best Picture winner, “Grand Hotel.” This drama and romance starring Greta Garbo, John Barrymore and Joan Crawford, is about the lavish hotel in Berlin where a group of very different individuals deal with each of their respective dramas. A ballerina whose jewels are coveted by a thief who fancies the stenographer and mistress to a businessman and the boss of a terminally ill bookkeeper under the care of an alcoholic physician… oh my! “Grand Hotel” follows the intertwining of this cast of characters over the course of one tumultuous day.

Next up, on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. and Friday, Nov. 8 at 2 p.m., “The Thin Man” (1934) hits the big screen. In this crime comedy, former detective Nick Charles (William Powell) and his wealthy wife Nora (Myrna Loy) investigate a murder case, mostly for the fun of it.

Third in the classic film lineup is the 1939 comedy-drama, “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington,”  starring the one and only Jimmy Stewart. You don’t want to miss seeing this lead actor in one of his finest roles.

Two action and adventure classics follow in 2020, beginning with the  1935 Hitchcock film “The 39 Steps,” playing Thursday, Jan. 2 at 7 p.m. and Friday, Jan. 3 at 2 p.m. And, “Mutiny on the Bounty” (1935), starring Charles Laughton and Clark Gable, playing Thursday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. and Friday, Feb. 7 at 2 p.m. And finally, closing out season three of the Classic Film Club, it’s Director’s Choice - a film title to be released later in the season -  screening on Thursday, March 5 at 7 p.m. and Friday, March 6 at 2 p.m.

All films, excluding the Director’s Choice, were selected by popular vote of enrolled Classic Film Club members. The films are screened free to film club members, and general admission tickets are available to the public and sold at the door. Ticket prices are $8 adult,;and $6 for members and youth 18 and under.

Beer, wine, and cider, catered by our friends at Stone Cove Catering, as well as Lincoln Theater concessions are available at all Classic Film Club screenings. So, grab your neighbors and come on down to the theater to see the classics, or as Bogart would say, “The stuff that dreams are made of.”
