MaineHealth Lincoln Hospital (MHLH) recently announced its new community board members and its leadership. 

Bruce Garren has been selected as the board chair. He succeeds Jack Fulmer, MD, who completed a three-year term at the end of October 2025. Garren was previously vice chair of the board. 

Garren is a retired attorney whose career was spent in the medical device industry. Most recently, he served as general counsel for Edwards Lifesciences, headquartered in Irvine, California. Edwards is the global leader in replacement heart valve technology. Garren earned his undergraduate degree at Antioch College and his juris doctor at Cornell Law School. 

“These are challenging times for hospitals and for health care more broadly,” Garren said. “MaineHealth Lincoln Hospital remains firmly committed to maintaining the highest level of patient care, even as we navigate an increasingly complex and demanding economic environment. We are fortunate to have a board and management with deep experience and a shared sense of responsibility for the communities we serve. Together, we are focused on expanding access to care, strengthening and supporting our workforce, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of hospital-based health care in Lincoln County.”

The Executive and Nominating Committee members are Garren, Nesbit, Fox, Patstone and Wade. 

In October 2025, MaineHealth unveiled a new governance model and defined various board roles. The structure is designed to strengthen MaineHealth’s collective voice, streamline decision-making, and ensure resources and strategies are aligned across the system. 

MaineHealth Lincoln, Pen Bay, Waldo and Mid Coast Hospitals make up the Coastal Region. A similar structure exists in MaineHealth’s Southern and Mountain regions. Each hospital’s community board will focus on quality, safety, patient experience, philanthropy and community relations.  

The community hospitals are all represented on the regional board. Fullmer chairs the Coastal Regional board, while Garren, Moorefield and Russ are members. 

The MaineHealth System Board is the fiduciary board and ultimate governing body for the system. It sets the overall direction and system-wide strategy
