Mason Station public hearing to focus on EPA cleanup grant
Wiscasset will hold a public hearing on a recently released Environmental Protection Agency report on several town-owned parcels at the former Mason Station with an eye toward approving the grant to pay for cleanup of some of the polluted sites.
Ransom Consulting had done the testing on several parcels, including soils testing, pore water testing, and gases testing, in May. The firm expected results to be available in August or September, but it took longer for the EPA to release the findings. Other parcels on the site, including Mason Station itself, were not tested because the town did not own them. Mason Station is scheduled for foreclosure for unpaid taxes on Dec. 29.
The engineer who oversaw the work, Steve Dyer, will be at the hearing, set for Dec. 14 at 6 p.m. in the town office meeting room.
