More good news
Dear Editor:
Before Trump, the US was in trouble. Like the Titanic, we were taking on water and sinking. We had shipped our industries and jobs overseas, had high inflation, and low growth. A united China and Russia were flexing their muscles both militarily and economically. Our economy was shattered.
On Jan. 15, the Register published a letter I wrote, “Bridge people.” There was a rebuttal on that piece. Go back and re-read the letter and make your own decision. There are good things happening in Washington on a weekly basis. Our country is moving towards prosperity and strength with a “rising tide that lifts all boats.” Since the original article we have had a month of outstanding economic news. GDP and job growth are up, and unemployment and inflation are down.
The January 2026 jobs report showed - Non-Farm Payroll is up 130,000 and revised December’s number up by 48,000, Unemployment Rate dropped to 4.3%, the Broader U-6 Unemployment Rate dropped 0.4% in December, Private Sector Payroll was up 172,000 while government sector dropped by 42,000. The Labor Force Participation rate rose to 84.1% (the highest since 2001), and Average Hourly Earnings were up 0.4% month over month. The January inflation report noted Core CPI fell to 2.5% (the lowest since March 2021). A summary of the January report notes positive momentum in the job markets with better-than-expected gains and lower unemployment and inflation below forecasts. In other reports rents, mortgages, and used car prices are falling and wages are increasing. There is much good news if one looks.
The polarization of our elected officials is holding America back. The new politics of name calling, impeachments, law fare, government shutdowns, and well-funded and coordinated coast to coast demonstrations are an affront to our Constitution, a united America, and our tradition of peaceful post-election turnover of power to the winning candidate. A house divided against itself cannot stand. Our enemies are celebrating and our citizens are suffering. Write a letter to your Senator and Representative and demand that they play together, show respect, and Make America Great Again.
