“Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am,” the acclaimed new film about novelist and storyteller Toni Morrison (1931-2019), will be shown at the Lincoln Theater in Damariscotta on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at 2 and 7 p.m.

This documentary about the legendary Toni Morrison examines her life, her work, and the powerful themes she confronted throughout her literary career. Woven together with art, history, literature, and personality, the film includes discussions about her many critically acclaimed works, including novels “Beloved,” “The Bluest Eye,” “Sula,” and “Song of Solomon,” her role as an editor of iconic African-American literature, and her time teaching at Princeton University.

The film features interviews with Hilton Als, Angela Davis, Fran Lebowitz, Walter Mosley, Sonia Sanchez and Oprah Winfrey, who turned Morrison’s novel “Beloved” into a feature film.

One reviewer said of the film: “It doesn’t matter whether you’ve read all — or any — of Morrison’s books. Either way, you may leave the theater wanting to pick one up on the way home. The good news is there are so many to choose from.”

Toni Morrison is the winner of many awards, including the Nobel Prize for Literature, Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

This presentation is being sponsored by the Midcoast Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in conjunction with People United Against Racism. Admission will be only $6, and high school students will be admitted free of charge. It is the first of an anti-racism film series planned by Lincoln County’s People United Against Racism.
