Enjoy Maine art and meet the artists of the Plein Air Painters of Maine at a reception hosted by Historic New England on Thursday, July 31 from 4 to 7 p.m.
The theme of this year’s show is “Old, New and In Between." Share experiences seen through the eyes of 21 artists in the beautiful historic Nickels-Sortwell House barn, 121 Main St., Wiscasset. The reception is free, casual and open to the public.
On view and available for purchase are works by John Sawyer, Diane Dubreil, Celia Ludwig, Deena Ball, Maryann Heinzen, Cassie Sano, Allison Donahue, Christine Aston, Wendy Ross, Mat O’Donnell, Susan Tan, Sarah Grenier, Thomas Grenier, Brian Dubina, Wendy K. Bellows, Penny Markley, Fran Scannell, Kenneth Harvey, Marina Y. Fisher and Douglas Smith. Take the opportunity to talk to the artists about their work and their differing perspectives on the built environment, iconic landscapes and special moments that could only happen in the state we call Maine.
This event is held in conjunction with the Wiscasset Art Walk.
The Nickels –Sortwell House Barn is home to a gallery of over 40 examples of these artists’ work, all of which is for sale to the public. A portion of each sale goes to Historic New England to help maintain this unique historic house and barn. The Barn gallery is open Friday – Sunday, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. or by appointment.
