Rev. Scott Lee at All Saints by-the-Sea July 28
The Reverend Scott Lee, Rector of Trinity Parish, Wethersfield, Conn., will conduct services at All Saints by-the-Sea this week and next.
On Sunday, July 28, Holy Communion will be celebrated at 8 a.m., and at 10 a.m., there will be a service of Morning Prayer.
On August 4 at both 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. services there will be a celebration of Holy Communion.
A social hour with refreshments follows the 10 a.m. Sunday services. On Tuesday, July 30 and Tuesday, August 6 at 9 a.m., Lee will lead a discussion group on the church porch.
Lee was born and grew up in Meridian, Miss., amid the turmoil of the struggle for equal rights and desegregation.
His mother, Julia Katherine, was a public school teacher and the first white teacher to agree to cross the color line and teach in a formerly all African American school. Her gentle activism is a major influence in his life and ministry.
Lee received a Bachelor of Arts degree and Master of Divinity degree from The College of Arts and Sciences of The University of the South and its School of Theology, though the degrees were 20 years apart. He also holds a master of the art of teaching (English) from Vanderbilt University.
He has served as Rector of Trinity Parish, Wethersfield, Conn., since 2007. Before becoming a transplanted New Englander, Lee was Canon Residentiary at Trinity Cathedral, Little Rock, Ark.; Rector at St. Mark’s Church, Nashville, Tenn., and Priest-in-Charge of Trinity Church, Clarksville, Tenn.
During his tenure in Arkansas, Lee was adjunct faculty of the Department of Philosophy and Religion of The University of Arkansas, Little Rock, teaching Old Testament/Hebrew Bible and History of Christian Thought.
He is a lifelong learner, committed to what he calls “The Spiritual Journey,” and to formation of adults along that path.
Lee is a member of The Dante Society of America; a Board Member of InterCommunity Mental Health Center, East Hartford; and a teacher of Centering Prayer, certified by Contemplative Outreach, Ltd.
He occasionally leads tours to Rome, focusing the groups’ attention on the history of the Church before and just after Constantine the Great.
The church is on Southport on All Saints Road about two miles on your left as you drive south on Route 238 (look for the Episcopal Church sign by the side of the road).
Parking is available along Route 238, or if necessary, in the limited number of handicapped parking spaces off All Saints Road.
A golf cart will ferry persons from the handicapped lot to the church steps.
You may also come to church by private boat or by the tour boat Novelty, which leaves Boothbay Harbor from Pier 8 at 9 a.m. Novelty picks up passengers from the church dock at 11:40 a.m. for return to Boothbay.
