Courtesy photo April enrichment classes close out the program year for Boothbay-Wiscasset Regional Adult Education, and now is the time to sign up.
First up is Bao Down to Flavor: Mastering Char Siu Bao with Jeff Mao from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, at Wiscasset Middle High School. In this hands-on cooking class, you’ll dive deep into the art of making Chinese Steamed Char Siu Bao, the beloved fluffy buns filled with savory Chinese BBQ pork. By the end of the class, you’ll not only have a batch of delicious Char Siu Bao to enjoy, but the skills and knowledge to recreate this traditional treat at home. The cost is $89.
In Boothbay Harbor on April 1, join Debra Arter for a Luscious Lemon Night from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Boothbay Region Elementary School. In this three-hour class, refresh your palette by making Lemon Portuguese Tartlets, Lemon Poppy seed Scones and Easy Lemon Bars. This class repeats at Wiscasset Middle High School on April 13. The cost is $55.
Your Health is in Your Hands: Introduction to the Art of Jin Shin Jitsu with Margit Ahlin also takes place from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. April 1, at Boothbay Region High School. Achieve physical, mental, and spiritual harmony and healing through the application of hands as “jumper cables” to gently balance the flow of life energy in the body. The class runs for three weeks. The cost is $75.
If you’ve ever thought about self-publishing, Heather Grotton-Emerson has tips and tricks for Self-Publishing on Amazon from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 9, at Wiscasset Middle High School. The cost is $57.
Jeff Mao is back in Wiscasset on Thursday, April 16 with From Flour to Flavor: Crafting Authentic Potstickers from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. In this class, you will learn how to make fresh scratch-made dough and roll your own wrappers, then how to fold and pleat them after stuffing with pork filling. All ingredients, materials, equipment and recipes will be provided. The cost is $89.
The spring season of A Field Course in Old Houses and Barns with Les Fossel kicks off on April 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Alna Meeting House. After the first session, meetings will be held in the old homes and barns of class members with as many sessions as are required to visit everyone. The last class will be a potluck supper at the instructor’s house, where class members can visit the historic features of Alna, see the instructor’s cabinet-making shop and barns, and delve into his reference library on early buildings. Les is one of Maine’s foremost experts on early buildings. His award-winning business has specialized in preserving our early buildings since 1975.
Margit Ahlin returns on April 29 with Fun with Feng Shui: Create a More Harmonious and Positive Environment in your Home from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., at Boothbay Region High School. Students will learn how to arrange objects, select colors, and incorporate natural elements to improve their health, relationships, career, and overall sense of well-being. The cost is $30.
Closing out the month, Chris Toy will be at Boothbay Region Elementary School on April 29 with his popular Wok & Cleaver Boot Camp. You'll learn Chris’ secrets to seasoning your wok for success, cleaver wisdom, stir-fry sensations, and more. Each student receives a specially curated kit to continue their culinary adventures at home, a $230 value that includes an iron wok, long-handled wok spatula, carbon steel cleaver, honing steel sustainable wooden cutting board and one of Chris Toy's six cookbooks. The cost is $225.
Online classes in April include Ukulele for Beginners from 6 to 7:30 p.m., beginning Wednesday, April 1 for four weeks, with another series starting April 28; Instant Piano from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. April 6; Instant Guitar from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. April 7; and Weather for Outdoor Enthusiasts from 6 to 8:30 p.m. April 28.
