Summer in full swing
Summer is in full swing: families visiting, summer friends returning. It’s neat to see all the red, white, and blue unfurling on our flag poles and porches. What are your plans for Fourth of July?
The Town Report is available at the town office. Good reading as we get ready for the ballot votes and Town Meeting on Friday and Saturday. Don’t forget that elections, the Wright Landing petition, and RSU 12 School Budget voting will take place during the day on Friday, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Town Meeting, beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, will discuss and decide many other warrant articles.
A neighbor is looking for a dory, something to use for exercise and relaxing on the water. If you have one, please give me a call at 207-882-6055 and we’ll connect the two of you.
Walking the shore or boating around the island and the coast, we probably all notice (and often pick up) a lot of debris, rope, cans, plastic bottles, cigarettes, quite a variety of waste. Did you know that most of what’s on shore gets into the ocean, and half of this eventually ends up on the bottom?
The Rozalia Project, aboard American Promise, travels all around the country working with communities to pick up marine debris. The vessel and volunteer crew is in the Gulf of Maine this summer, and at Ocean Point Marina in East Boothbay this weekend. Lots of fun and educational programs and activities (and free) for children and families set for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
For details on their schedule, send an email to info@boothbayseaanssciencecenter.org, and visit Rozalia’s website at www.rozaliaproject.org to learn about their Mission Atlantic.
Maybe friends and families are keen on art, Wiscasset kicks off its first Art Walk this Thursday, June 27 from 5 to 8 p.m. A great way to introduce your youngsters and visitors to beautiful paintings, unique crafts, and one-of-a-kind antiques. You’ll find amazing visual art, ceramics (with hands-on demonstrations), and music on the waterfront, in the Sunken Gardens, and in businesses throughout the village.
After a bit of democracy on Saturday, Sunday can be a day of play. There are some bocce players in town, I’ve heard. Winters Gone Farm is getting together an adult team and possibly a league this summer at the Farm at 245 Alna Road. Curious, ready to roll? Head up on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., or call Skip at 207-882-9191. The Zumba class on Sunday evening is another healthy way to get our bodies moving, burning off energy and tossing away worries! The class is at 6 p.m. at the Town Hall.
