“The Hero”- Lee Hayden (Sam Elliott) plays an aging Western icon with a golden voice, but his best performances are decades behind him. He spends his days reliving old glories and smoking too much weed with his former-co-star-turned-dealer, Jeremy (Nick Offerman), until a surprise cancer diagnosis brings his priorities into sharp focus. He soon strikes up an exciting, contentious relationship with standup comic Charlotte (Laura Prepon), and he attempts to reconnect with his estranged daughter, Lucy (Krysten Ritter), all while searching for one final role to cement his legacy.

Sam Elliott could not be more compelling.” “The Hero” has a runtime of 95 minutes and is rated R. It plays at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25 through Thursday, Aug.31.

Please note: Coming Oct. 1, Harbor Theater (formally “Friends of The Harbor Theatre”), a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization, plans to purchase and operate The Harbor Theatre after the current theater’s lease expires Sept. 30, 2017. Theatre owner Jason Sheckley and staff will continue to manage the cinema’s operations as employees of Harbor Theater.

“The Big Sick” (R; 2 hours) - The story of Pakistan-born aspiring comedian Kumail (Nanjiani), who connects with grad student Emily (Zoe Kazan) after one of his stand-up sets. However, what they thought would be just a one-night stand blossoms into the real thing, which complicates the life that is expected of Kumail by his traditional Muslim parents. Rated R; run time: 2 hours. Plays at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8; and at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, Sunday, Sept. 10, Wednesday, Sept. 13 and Thursday, Sept. 14.
