Try getting a book character named for you in Band for Books silent auction
Bands for Books is the major annual fundraising activity for The Friends of the Wiscasset Public Library. This year, we will celebrate our 12th anniversary and are planning another special evening. The Friends of the Wiscasset Public Library is celebrating 60 years of service to the community this year. Our tradition has been to honor those who devoted their time, talent and treasure to our Library and 2026 will not be an exception.
We are able to keep ticket prices at a pre-sale price of $20 each and $25 at the door the evening of the event. You can stop by the Library to purchase tickets. The event is a casual evening of fun.
Last year, the Friends donated in excess of $13,000 to the Library to assist with expenses and necessary repairs. This included help with operating expenses which include the Summer Reading Program, Adult Programs, Young Adult Programs, copier fees and the Inter-Library Loan System. This system provides access to all Maine libraries. This year, we are planning the renovation of the restroom in the Children’s Library. Proceeds from Bands for Books will be instrumental in funding this project.
Our silent auction is a major part of the evening and this year we have an amazing assortment of items. We will offer several photographs by our local photographers of the Wiscasset area, watercolors reminiscent of the area, a tour of Pemaquid Lighthouse and restaurant gift cards, Also, Leslie Meiers, a writer whose stories are centered around the Midcoast area, has agreed to name a character in an upcoming book after the highest bidder for this item! You will be immortal!
Call Treasurer Lynn Maloney (207-798-2831) if you are interested in becoming a sponsor or donating an item for the silent auction. She can also be contacted via email (lynnmaloney5@yahoo.com)
This is an opportunity to visit with old friends, make new friends and join in the celebration.
The Bands for Books volunteers are grateful to members of the community for your support and your attendance. We are also grateful to the many volunteers who stepped up to assist us in this endeavor. We could not do it without our team. Stop by Wiscasset Public Library to purchase your tickets (21 High St., Wiscasset) or contact Maloney about tickets, and mark your calendars for this year’s event, Labor Day, Sept. 7.
