UPDATE: Wiscasset Parks and Recreation Director Duane Goud released the following statement via email Wednesday afternoon:

“Unfortunately, due to recent events, local restrictions and the increase in locally confirmed COVID-19 cases, our scheduled Halloween event “Nightmare on Federal Street” has been cancelled for this coming Saturday, Oct. 31.

“However, we will be having a drive-through Halloween event at Wiscasset Community Center giving out candy for those who come dressed in their costumes between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m.on Halloween, Saturday, Oct. 31 or as long as the candy lasts. We will have other local individuals, businesses and organizations set up for the drive-through event. This will mean everyone is to remain in their vehicles as they drive through the parking lot, candy bags will be distributed by individuals from each table to the driver/passenger of each vehicle for the children dressed up in their vehicle. Please be patient with everyone as we try to make something good, safe and fun happen for the children in our community.

“If you are an individual, business, or organization that was planning on participating in “Nightmare on Federal Street” and would like to still be involved in our drive-through event, please contact Duane Goud at WCC. We would love to have as many people involved  as we can, remembering  that we will be practicing social distancing, wearing masks and being as safe as possible while still having a great time, restricted, but still a great time. All specific instructions will be given to those participating on Saturday.

Original post: Wiscasset Town Manager Dennis Simmons has announced the cancellation of the Oct. 31 “Nightmare on Federal Street” event. In lieu of this event, Parks and Recreation Director Duane Goud is planning a drive-through event at Wiscasset Community Center.

While Goud has worked very hard to plan “Nightmare,” in light of recent events and the steadily rising number of COVID-19 cases, we feel this change is a prudent step. We understand that many children will be disappointed, but we look forward to hosting them for an outstanding event next year.
