Voters say 'yes' to warrant articles
In a low voter turnout Tuesday, Sept. 11, Wiscasset voters narrowly approved all four questions on the ballot.
There were 270 votes cast, which is less than two percent of the registered voters in town.
The town selectmen had recommended the approval of the articles with the town budget committee strongly opposing each of the articles.
Question 1,asking for 3/12 of the previous year’s budget to be spent passed with 117 yes votes and 105 no votes.
Question 2 asking the voters to raise and appropriate $48,674 for the codes enforcement officer’s budget, cutting his hours from 32 hours a week to 25 hours, and decreasing his budget from $54,696, passed by seven votes, 114 in favor and 107 opposed.
Question 3 asking for 50,000 to be raised and appropriated for the contingency fund, a decrease from $60,000 that was defeated on June 12, passed with 125 in favor and 95 opposed.
Question 4 asking for $5,000 for the Lincoln County Television, a decrease from $7,000 requested in the June 12 vote, passed with 120 in favor and 101 opposed.
