Web applications course offered in Bath
University College at Bath/Brunswick director Dennis Unger is pleased to announce that the University of Maine at Augusta CIS 131 Web Applications course will be offered this fall as a traditional on-site class at the Center. Adjunct faculty Lynne Sanford returns to teach this course on Tuesdays from 4 to 6:45 p.m. starting September 3.
A practical, hands-on introduction to the design and development of a website, this course introduces students with little to no experience in Web scripting to the concepts, syntax and structure of XHTML.
The course will also include an introduction to Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), an important presentation initiative, and Universal Design, the process of incorporating accessible design features into Web pages. The final project-based assignment will assess the comprehensive process of designing, developing and publishing a personal or professional site on a Web server. Prerequisites are CIS 100 or equivalent computer skills or permission of the instructor.
For those who have not met the Web applications course prerequisite, Sanford will also teach CIS 100 Introduction to Computing on Wednesdays from 4 to 6:45 p.m. as a traditional on-site class at the center.
This course presents computing concepts and technology, and introduces students to productivity applications used in the work place, such as email, the Internet, word-processing, spreadsheets, database management systems and presentation graphics. Students acquire skills by means of intensive, hands-on work in a computer laboratory.
UCBB is located in the Midcoast Center for Higher Education on 9 Park Street in Bath. Registration is now open for courses offered in Bath this fall. In addition to classrooms, the Center has a number of computers available to current students.
