This week at The Harbor Theatre: ‘The Amazing Spiderman-2’ and ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’
Director Marc Webb continues the story he began in 2012. In “The Amazing Spider-Man,” Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) is a normal, everyday high school kid, until he is bitten by a radio-active spider, which gives him super powers. After graduating from high school, he continues to protect the world from evil, using those super powers, while preparing college applications and dating his true love, Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone).
Now, in “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” Peter Parker is back, and so are the bad guys: Max Dillon (Jamie Foxx), formally an electrical engineer at Oscorp Industries until a freak accident transforms him into Electro, a Screaming Blob of Bloviated Electrical Energy; Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), an old friend of Peter's, who becomes The Green Goblin, a Halloween-themed supervillain; and Paul Giamatti as Rhino, a Russian mobster who will stop at nothing to see Spider-Man crushed.
It all adds up to great visual fun as Times Square in New York City is mangled, Spider-Man attempts to protect the population, and let's not forget those college applications.
The film also stars Felicity Jones (“The Invisible Woman”) as Felicia and Academy-award winner Sally Field (“Norma Rae” and “Places in the Heart”) as Aunt May.
The Amazing Spider-Man-2, rated PG-13, plays Wednesday, May 7 through Saturday, May 10 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, May 11 at 3 p.m.
