Westport Island Column: Holidays and memories
A couple days break and then another chilly one. Tuesday started off with a glorious sunrise, but promised more cold blustery air to take our breath away.
It’s a quiet week in town. We must be shifting gears, from festivities and travel, company and food back to work and school (or maybe we’re just muffled by our big coats, long scarves and warm boots!)
Has your house recovered from the holidays? Wrapping paper, tape, gift tags and scissors still clutter one room, where crumbled, glittery tissue paper quickly became a new spot for my cat to nap. If she would only help pack things away. Glad to see many wreathes still decorating our homes, the church, and Town Hall — something about the greens and reds, welcoming colors and signs of joy.
We make memories during the holidays, and lots of old memories (stories) get shared around the dinner table recalling winter adventures with a toboggan, struggling, laughing and groaning bringing a tree into the house, and wonderful gifts from our favorite aunts or goofy uncles. Good memories, some sad — but that’s life! Noticed that the Wiscasset Senior Center is starting a storytelling session on Wednesdays, before the weekly dinner (around 4:45 p.m.). This will be informal, according to Doc Schilke, inspired by suggested topics that interest people. Stop by, listen, mix your stories in with others.
Wishing for a less dramatic story but another happy ending in Foxborough this Sunday.
