Westport Island officials Monday night announced the following details of the 9 a.m. Saturday, April 10 special town meeting set for the town hall green, 1217 Main Road on the proposed local match to a possible ConnectME broadband grant:

“The (warrant) is posted at the Town Hall, the Town Office, on the Town website, and will be handed out at check-in for the Town Meeting.

“To ensure safe accommodation of all voters interested in participating and facilitate efficient conduct of the meeting, we are planning to hold a stand-upmeeting outside on the Town Hall Green between the Town Hall and the Community Church. Limited seating will be provided for those unable to stand for the meeting duration, and several parking spaces immediately adjacent to the Green will be reserved for elderly and/or medically or mobility-compromised individuals to participate from their vehicles.

“We ask for your patience with us and accommodation with our guidelines for keeping the Special Town Meeting safe.

“Masks, hand sanitizer, and sanitizing wipes will be available at check-in.

“On behalf of the Board of Selectmen, we are asking for the following protocol to be observed: Masks will be required; please social distance from those not in your family group; voters need to check in with election clerks for balloting materials; voter check in will begin at 8:30 a.m.; remember there is no absentee voting for an open town meeting – you must be present to vote; only registered voters can vote at the Town Meeting; the Registrar will be available for voter registration if you are not already registered; to speak during the meeting, wait for acknowledgement by the Moderator, then please go to the microphone provided at the front and state your name before addressing participants; for those unable to approach the microphone, a staff member will bring and hold the microphone; for paper ballots, you will be given a new pen to keep, and staff will circulate with the ballot box to minimize cross-traffic and to help maintain social distancing; and, at the conclusion of the meeting, please exit in an orderly fashion.

“Town Hall restrooms will be available for one person at a time.

“To bring good luck and help keep the rain away, bring an umbrella! One day prior to the meeting, weather predictions will be evaluated. If severe weather is predicted, the meeting will be moved inside the Town Hall. Adaptations will be posted.

“Thank you for helping to keep Westport Island safe!”
