Wilson Memorial Chapel begins services on June 30
The Rev. Cannon John L. C. Mitman will preach at Wilson Chapel at Ocean Point on June 30 at 9:30 a.m. All are welcome.
A native of Washington, D.C., Canon Mitman graduated from Randolph-Macon College in Virginia in 1962 and from the Berkeley Divinity School at Yale in 1965.
He has served as Curate and Associate Rector at St. Thomas’ in Hanover, N.H.; Vicar Pro Tem at St. Michael and All Angels in Lancing, Sussex, England; Chaplain Precentor at The Cathedral of St. John in Hong Kong; Director of Interns and Fellows at the William Jewett Tucker Foundation at Dartmouth College; Episcopal Chaplain at Michigan State University; Rector of St. Paul’s Parish, Des Moines, Iowa; Rector of St. James’s Parish in West Hartford, Conn.; and Priest Associate, Christ Church Cathedral, Hartford, Conn.
Beginning in 2001, Mitman served as Executive Director of the Society for the Increase of the Ministry, raising money for and administering scholarship monies for Episcopal seminarians across the United States. He retired in 2010.
He has served the Diocese of Connecticut as member of Executive Council; the Board of Managers of All Saints Conference Center, Camp Washington: as chair of the Transfiguration Lodge Convocation; a member of the Planned Giving Committee; and as a member of the Greater Hartford Campus Ministry Committee.
Nationally, he held several offices in the Episcopal Society for Ministry in Higher Education: as a member of the Office of Ministry Development’s Spirituality Task Force; as an Alternate and Deputy to General Convention; and as Founder and American organizer of the Benedictine Experience program at Canterbury Cathedral.
His publications include, “Premarital Counseling: A Practical Manual for Clergy and Lay Counselors.”
The Mitmans will be returning to Ocean Point and Linekin Neck beginning July 13 for four weeks.
