Wiscasset High School announces ‘Top Scholars’
Wiscasset High School announces that the following members of the Class of 2013 have earned the distinction of “Top Scholars.” These seven seniors each have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
Following tradition, the Top Scholars are announced in alphabetical order:
Megan A. Corson
Megan Corson serves as a school leader in many ways. She is president of the National Honor Society, Vice President of Student Council, Treasurer of the Class of 2013, and captain of the cheerleading and softball teams. She is a member of the chorus, Math Team, the Yearbook Committee and is a Middle School Mentor. Corson’s community service includes volunteering with Special Olympics and District III Auditions. In her junior year she received the Smith College Book Award and she was a Girls State Delegate.
She is the daughter of Rachel Corson of Wiscasset. She will study nursing at the University of Maine.
Brandon S. Delano
Brandon Delano is an outdoor enthusiast who enjoys hiking snowshoeing, biking and camping with the Outing Club. Golf, fishing and amateur photography are his hobbies. He has been active as a Middle School Mentor and is a member of the National Honor Society. A Top Ten Sophomore, he is consistently on the honor roll and has perfect attendance for all four years of high school. He received the St. Michael’s College Book Award his junior year.
He is the son of Scott and Leslie Delano of Wiscasset and will attend Husson University in Bangor in the fall, where he will study environment science.
Heidi M. Pinkham
Heidi Pinkham has distinguished herself on the athletic fields and courts of Wiscasset High School. She is a four-year member of the basketball, cross country, and softball teams serving as captain of each team. She has been selected for the Mt. Valley Conference All-Star teams for cross-country and softball. She was recognized as an Academic All-Star Athlete in fall sports for the Mt. Valley Conference. She has received the Coach’s Award and Most Valuable Runner Award.
She was a Top Ten Sophomore, received the St. Michael’s College Book Award her junior year, and has received academic awards in Spanish, math, English and art. She is a member of the Student Council, the Yearbook Committee and is Secretary of the Class of 2013. Pinkham has volunteered for Special Olympics, as a Middle School Mentor and as a graduation hostess for the Class of 2012.
She is the daughter of Louanne and Michael Pinkham Sr. of Wiscasset and will attend the University of Southern Maine, where she will major in elementary education.
Kyle E. Shute
Kyle Shute brings his dedication and cheerful attitude to a wide variety of school activities. He as been a four-year member of the cross-country and track teams and has served as a timekeeper for basketball. For four years he has also been a member of the chorus, played the flute in the band, and been active on and off stage in the Drama Club. Shute is a member of the National Honor Society, the Outing Club, and Student Council. He was a Top Ten Sophomore, a Boys State Delegate and received the Williams College Book Award his junior year.
He is the son of Lynne Flaccus and Greg Shute of Alna and will attend the University of Maine to major in wildlife ecology.
Alyssa M. Urquhart
Alyssa Urquhart is a student with talent in many areas. She received the Phi Beta Kappa Academic Achievement Award and the Colby College Book Award her junior year, was a Top Ten Sophomore, and a Girls State Delegate. She has performed the National Anthem with her beautiful voice for many Wiscasset High School events and has participated in chorus.
As a member of the Drama Club she has been in several play productions. She has been active in the Outing Club all four years of high school. A vital member of the cross-country, track, and swim teams, Urquhart has served as captain of the swim team for three years. She is a member of National Honor Society, the Math Team, Student Council, and is co-president of her class.
She is the daughter of Carl and Lori Urquhart of Alna and will attend the University of Maine in the fall.
Cormac G. Walsh
Cormac Walsh has been a member of the Wiscasset High School track team and has participated in football and power lifting all four years on teams outside of the school community. He serves as captain of the football team and has held the Maine State Bench Press Record for 16-17-year-olds.
Walsh is a member of the National Honor Society, was a Top Ten Sophomore, received the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Award as a junior, and was a Boys State Delegate. He is active in the Civil Rights Team, the Drama Club, Math Team, Student Council, and has been a Middle School Mentor. He also participated in the Model United Nations Program.
He is the son of Mark Walsh of Wiscasset and Jude Neveux of Biddeford and will attend Bates College to study biology and biochemistry.
Madeline D. Wehrle
Madeline Wehrle’s determination and motivation have made her a valuable asset to the school community. She has acted as class treasurer and vice president and is a vital member of the Math Team, Outing Club and National Honor Society. She has played the clarinet in the band, volunteered as a Middle School Mentor, and participated in basketball, soccer and track. She attended the Mount Desert Biological Research Summer Internship Program.
She is the daughter of Ginger Wehrle and Paul Wehrle of Wiscasset and will study bioengineering at the University of Maine in the fall.
