Wiscasset High School hosts Special Olympics Track and Field event

Wiscasset High School welcomed Boothbay Region and eight other Special Olympic teams on May 8 to the Sagadahoc-Lincoln Special Olympics Track and Field meet. The hosts fielded 11 athletes and Boothbay Region entered 20.
The other Midcoast teams included Coastal Athletic, Brunswick, Bath, Morse High School, Lincoln Academy, Great Salt Bay and Mount Ararat. The Special Olympians are preparing for the state games held June 5-7 at the University of Maine at Orono.
The World Special Olympic Games will be held from July 25 to Aug. 2 in Los Angeles. The ceremonial torch run begins May 25 in five locations across the country. Augusta is one of the locations. A cross country relay run will end with lighting of the Special Olympic Torch.
Sagadahoc-Lincoln Special Olympics manager Toby LeConte plans on taking a contingent of local athletes to watch the torch run begin outside the state capitol building’s cafeteria.
