Considering the office you are running for, what do you feel are the three most pressing issues (350 words or less):
One of the major issues under the selectboard's authority is the relocation of the wastewater treatment plant. I support keeping the plant at its current location. Initially, the town was offered the option to build a protective wall around the facility to address concerns about sea level rise. This offer was later rescinded, requiring relocation to the mainland. The town is currently working to have the State reverse this decision. In 2024, voters approved moving the plant to Sand Hill Road, where the Department of Public Works’ facilities are located. The proposed facility would be fully enclosed, eliminating emissions. After touring a similar facility in Oxford, Maloney observed no odors inside or outside. The Superintendent of the facility states that the only emission from the facility is when they lose power and the generators engage. I have offered abutters the opportunity to tour the facility but has not received any responses. If the June ballot measure passes requiring relocation, it could cost the town up to one million dollars per mile and potentially result in the loss of previously offered funding.
Another significant issue involves the use of 300 acres located off Old Ferry Road and Birch Point Road. An investor is considering a ten-billion-dollar investment to build an AI facility on this land. This project could dramatically reduce property taxes. I conditionally support the initiative, provided the facility supplies its own electrical power, separate from residential power, to avoid affecting residential rates. I also emphasize the need to prevent noise and other issues associated with current AI facilities.
Decisions also need to be made regarding Mason Station, as several parties are interested in the property and its future direction.
Any other thoughts on why you are running or what you can bring to the office? (150 words or less): Economic Development and Fiscal Responsibility: I am seeking reelection based on my original goal of promoting economic development, which aims to broaden Wiscasset's tax base. By attracting new businesses and homes, the property tax rate can be lowered, while preserving the town's character or allowing for only minimal changes.
I believe fiscal responsibility by the selectboard translates to fiscal security for taxpayers.
