Yard sale benefits Midcoast Hospital
The old Bookland at Cook’s Corner Mall will again be filled May 17, 18 and 19 with the generous donations from the midcoast community in support of the Mid Coast Hospital Auxiliary’s “Grand and Glorious” Yard Sale. Donations have been coming in since the end of March, and the last day to donate is Saturday, May 11, 9 a.m. to noon.
“The entire Midcoast community supports us in this endeavor,” said Auxiliary President Carolyn Gibson. “Our hospital is owned by our communities and without this support, we could not possibly pull off such a giant yard sale. Our funds go back into our communities through health career scholarships and pledges for hospital projects.”
The three-day sale starts with a Preview Party Friday night, May 17, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., when patrons may shop, enjoy hors d’oeuvres and beverages. Advance tickets are $15 per person and may be purchased at three locations until May 15: Now You’re Cooking in Bath; Mid Coast Hospital Gift Shop; and Gulf of Maine Books.
Tickets will be sold at the Bookland back door on Saturday, May 11, from 9 a.m. to noon. Tickets at the door are $20 per person and will be sold starting at 6:15 p.m., after the advance ticket holders have entered.
What’s at the sale? Everything you will need to equip a camp, cottage, apartment, home or dorm room, except for appliances, TVs, large exercise equipment, non-rolling luggage, baby cribs and large fake Christmas trees. The last day to donate is Saturday, May 11 and volunteers will meet you at your vehicle to help you unload. Receipts are given for the donations if you wish.
“The intake team is terrific,” said Margy Burroughs, one of the three tri-chairs. “These volunteers sort as they unload and then distribute to the 11 “departments” in the sale. Or maybe I should say “boutiques” instead of departments because the quality of the donations is superb. All items have been cleaned, polished, sorted and attractively arranged for quick sale.”
“Boutiques” are arranged to showcase furniture, house and garden, children/toys, linens, electronics, miscellaneous, kitchen, antiques and treasures, crafts, jewelry and accessories, and sporting goods.
Hours on Saturday, May 18, with free admittance, are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Sunday, May 19, 9 a.m. to noon. This is the 11th yard sale held by the Auxiliary, at various locations, either every year or every other year.
