Boothbay Harbor Waterfront Preservation has just received a $300,000 grant from the A.R. and Marylouise Tandy Foundation of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The grant will be used to support construction of the Eastside Waterfront Park. In recognition of this generous and significant donation, the overlook plaza and pathway will be named in the foundation’s honor.

Purchase of the former Cap’n Fish Motel property was finalized  in October 2019, and demolition of the buildings was completed in early June of this year. Board President Bob McKay states that the group is anticipating that most of the major development work on the site can be completed this fall, and that the park should be ready for the community to enjoy next summer.

In his comments, Michal Bartel, Senior Vice President, Trust Company Oklahoma and spokesperson for the Foundation stated that the Foundation Trustees “were very impressed with the efforts of all concerned in satisfying Phase I in the purchase of the land as well as the impressive work you have been able to accomplish with the pandemic still very active.”

The grant will be awarded in two phases, with the first $200,000 already awarded and the final $100,000 designated as a match to be released upon the organization’s receipt of $100,000 in additional donations. Donations can be made at www.waterfrontparkme.org.

McKay was pleased to report, “Just days after receiving the Tandy decision, an anonymous foundation grant of $30,000 was received so we are well on our way to meet that match challenge. That said, we hope that we will see the same level of support that we had from so many members of our wonderful community last year to purchase the land now that we are ready to make the park a reality.”
