Every writer could use a little help now and then, and Mid-Coast Writers Collaborative is ready to provide that help to creative, non-fiction, and career writers. Founded by Dr. Wendy Galgan, the Collaborative offers manuscript consultations, individualized writing coaching (for beginners as well as experienced authors), and small group workshops, along with guidance for graduate school application essays and MFA portfolio revisions. In addition, if you are looking to polish your résumé and cover letter, or to update and revise your CV, the Collaborative can provide the support you need to help prospective employers see the talents you have to offer.

Trained as a Writing Fellow through the City University of New York Graduate Center, Galgan brings to clients her more than 20 years of experience teaching creative writing, business communication, and composition courses at the college level, first in Brooklyn, New York and now in Standish, Maine. Over the years she has also worked one-on-one with numerous writers who were completing creative projects, entering the workforce or changing jobs, and applying to graduate programs. A published poet and academic author herself, she is also the founder and editor of “Assisi: An Online Journal of Arts & Letters.” All clients of Mid-Coast Writers Collaborative will work directly with Dr. Galgan.

“Currently, the Collaborative will be an online service,” Galgan explained, “but unlike many similar writing-support providers I will not be working solely with submitted material. Each potential client will meet with me via videoconference for a free, initial consultation. This will help me understand what the person hopes to gain from using my services, it will give me insight into who each writer is and how I might be able to help him or her, and it will provide the writer the opportunity to decide whether I am someone he or she wants to work with.”

The Collaborative’s slogan is “Your Voice. Your Vision. Our Expert Guidance.” This reflects Galgan’s commitment to the individuality of each writer. “Helping an author develop and refine his or her own voice is very important to me,” she said. “To tell your own story, whether in fiction or a job application, is empowering. To be able to do that, however, you must find your own, unique voice to tell the story well and truly.”

Galgan continued, “I will provide real, individualized, useful guidance for the people who use my services. It is a sad fact that some writing coaches and editorial guides are less-than-principled when it comes to the promises they make and the help they offer. Mid-Coast Writers Collaborative will stand for ethical, honest service and support. I will not over-promise. I will not compromise quality in order to increase profits. I will not deceive people with overblown promises of certain publication. What I will do is what I have done my entire career: help each author become a better, stronger, more skilled writer.”
