Wiscasset announced the following on its textmygov service Monday morning: “It is with profound sadness that Town Manager Dennis Simmons announces the sudden and unexpected death of Code Enforcement Officer Bruce Engert. Out of respect for Bruce and to allow town office staff a chance to process this unexpected event, the town office will be closed today.”

Monday night’s planning board and ordinance review committee meetings will take place as scheduled, the town added in a second announcement. The ORC meets at 5:30 p.m.; planning board, 7 p.m.

Engert was also Alna’s code enforcement officer and previously served many years as Woolwich’s, according to Wiscasset Newspaper files.

“The select board and Town of Alna expresses our condolences to the family in this time of sudden loss,” read an email Monday morning from Alna First Selectman Nick Johnston.
