The lights go up on ‘Shrek the Musical’ November 15

‘Shrek the Musical’ opens at the Waldo Theatre next weekend. This unorthodox fairy tale has humor for both adults and kids and teaches us that even the imperfect can, truly, have a happy ending.
The ogre, Shrek (Roger Marcotte) tries to gain his swamp back from the fairy tale craeatures who were exiled from Duloc by the Napoleonic Lord Farquaad (Gareet Carter). Along the way, he meets the lovingly annoying Donkey (Brad Fillion) and sets off to save the bipolar princess, Fiona.
(Cayleigh Hearth) from Dragon (built by Melissa Glendenning and sung by Tabitha Ordway, Kat Pelkey, Sabrina Turner, Jenni Prescott, Kayleigh Tolley, Katherine Tolley), in order to exchange her for his land. What he does not expect is to fall in love.
The orchestra is being led by Sean Fleming, accompanied by Corey Redonnet (formally of Blue Man Group), Chuck McGregor, Alan Millet and others. Musical direction by Linda Blanchard, stage direction by Melissa Hearth, choreography by Cayleigh and Melissa Hearth, costumes by Paulette Carter, Melissa Hearth, and parents.
Performances are Friday, Nov. 15, 22, 23 at 7 p.m. and November 16, 17, 24 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for students and seniors, and $5 for kids 8 and under. Advance tickets are available at Maine Coast Books and Community Pharmacy in Waldoboro.
