The Wiscasset Community Center is hosting a Discover SCUBA diving event to be held on March 22 and 23 at their facility at 242 Gardner Road in Wiscasset.

The event is designed for people who have never tried SCUBA diving but have considered taking a certification course. The one-day course will be held twice, on March 22, 3 to 5 p.m. (for ages 16-plus) and again on March 23 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (ages 11-15).

The courses will be led by certified instructors from Barclay’s Skindiver’s Paradise, a dive shop located in Auburn. Divers from the University of Southern Maine SCUBA Club will also be on hand to help out in the pool and answer questions about diving and related activities.

The cost of the event is $25 per person. All instruction and equipment required for the day will be provided, although attendees are encouraged to bring a bathing suit and towel. Space is limited and interested parties are encouraged to preregister by calling the Wiscasset Recreation Department at 207-882-8230.
