School locked down while deputies search for local man
After concerns were raised about a 36-year-old Bristol man, a Damariscotta school was put on lock down Wednesday morning.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office received calls at 9:35 a.m. Wednesday about a man who was upset about a pending child custody situation. The Sheriff’s Office initial investigation showed that the man, who has ties to the Great Salt Bay School, was driving from Bristol to Damariscotta.
The school was notified shortly after and made the decision to go into lock down.
Deputies stated that at no point did they receive information that the school or the students were in danger. The lock down was used to remove any disruption that could have been caused had the man decided to visit the school.
The man was located at 12:14 p.m. by deputies in Hancock County. After consulting with his family doctor, he was deemed to be no immediate threat to himself or anyone else and was released after being detained briefly on Verona Island.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department has decided not to release the man’s name because no crime was committed and no investigation is forthcoming.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, the Bucksport Police Department, Waldo County Sheriff’s Office, Know County Sheriff’s Office, Maine State Police, the Damariscotta Police Department, the Lincoln County Communication Center and representatives for United States Cellular.
