Obama campaign director speaks to Lincoln County Democrats
Democrats and interested members of the public crammed into the new Lincoln County Democrats' Headquarters on Main Street on Tuesday evening, June 19, to hear Toby McGrath, Director of the 2012 Maine for Obama Campaign outline a strategy for again winning Maine for Obama in the November election.
McGrath pointed out that included in the many accomplishments of the Obama administration is a track record of constant job growth for the last 28 months and a record of only 1.4 percent of growth in federal spending, compared with 7.7 percent by George W. Bush, 3.5 percent by Clinton, and 5.4 percent by George H.W. Bush. McGrath cited another accomplishment of the Obama administration, often forgotten in the turmoil of current international problems, the termination of U.S. involvement in the war in Iraq. Although the future of Obama's signature health care plan will be determined by the Supreme Court in the next few weeks, McGrath notes that many insurance companies already recognize the value of the plan and are adopting aspects of it ahead of any decisions made by the Supreme Court.
McGrath, who served as the Maine Campaign Manager for Maine's 2008 Obama campaign for America, announced that the 2012 Obama campaign in Maine will coordinate its work with Maine's state and local campaigns as well. He said that he is very excited about the quality of Lincoln County's Democratic candidates.
After McGrath's remarks, Senator Chris Johnson, candidate for reelection for State Senate District 20; Mick Devin, candidate for House District 51; Lisa Miller, candidate for House District 52, and Mary Trescot, candidate for County Commissioner, spoke to the audience about their campaigns.
The next meeting of the Lincoln County Democrats will be on July 18, speaker and location to be announced. All interested voters are welcome to visit the headquarters on Main Street in Damariscotta and volunteer to become involved in local, state and the Obama campaign.
