On Tuesday, Dec. 13, people driving through Boothbay Center were seeing something that caused them to slow down to take it in. The late Frank Chamberlain’s house had been demolished, and his huge red barn was toppled over, quickly meeting the same fate as the old white house that had sat there through over 100 Maine winters. Frank, a former longtime Register employee, loved that place, where he shared the house, and the barn where he sharpened knives and saws and carved little wooden animals, with his dog Dammit and his cat, Cat. Nathalie Gorey's cooking class, "A French Canadian Holiday," featured traditional Christmas holiday favorites such as meat and salmon pies and maple pudding cake. The class was one of many offered by Boothbay Region Adult Education this fall. Held in the home sciences room at the elementary school, the class was a delicious way to experience the flavors and traditions of our French Canadian neighbors at this wonderful time of year. Attending the Dec. 8 evening class were, from left, Kathy Dunton, Carol Cochran, Cheri Alexander, Sarah Sherman and Teacher/Chef Nathalie Gorey. Courtesy of Diane Randlett
Wiscasset Elementary School students from Mrs. Morissette’s fourth grade class recently had the opportunity to create Christmas ornaments. Thanks to the generosity of library volunteer Tracy Robertson, who provided materials as well as her craft expertise, students used part of their library time to make these lovely holiday decorations. Here, Elizabeth and Hailey show their ornaments and the second photo is of the ornaments made by the entire class. Courtesy of Linda Hartman

Russell and Jan Brackett, owners of Harbor Tech of Boothbay Harbor, were all aboard for volunteering at Boothbay Railway Village's North Pole Express on Saturday, Dec. 10. Through a national U.S. Cellular program, Harbor Tech donated all the hot chocolate for four days (1,700 servings) of the museum's holiday program as well as hundreds of candy canes. Most importantly, the Bracketts, along with employees, are volunteering on each day of North Pole Express. According to Executive Director Margaret Hoffman, "This is such a terrific gift since this event is our last fundraiser of the year. We couldn't be more grateful to have a family-owned, local business support our efforts to sustain the Museum and share some holiday cheer." North Pole Express continues on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 17 and 18. Courtesy of Margaret Hoffman
