‘Antique Roadshow’ style show comes to Newcastle
Do you have something in the attic that might possibly have real value as an antique, but you just don’t know? Would you like to raise money for local nonprofits that provide heating oil, stock food pantries, address homelessness or help insulate low-income homes? Do both at “Appraisal Day” at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Newcastle on Friday, May 15.
John Bottero, vice president at Thomaston Auction Galleries, will park his specially-equipped recreational vehicle on the Parish House lawn at the corner of Glidden and Cross Streets and inspect items brought there by the public for valuation. Bottero will provide a written estimate of the item’s current market value for use in insurance coverage or for documenting a tax-deductible donation.
Modeled after the “Antique Roadshow” program on PBS, this service will cost $10 per item or $25 for three items. Bottero is donating his time and expertise so that all the day’s proceeds will go to support St. Andrew’s Outreach Fund and its 18 local, in-state and international partners. Once the appraisal is done, St. Andrew’s would welcome items to be donated in support of the Outreach Fund. All such donations will be eligible as a charitable deduction on federal income taxes.
As part of a two-day fundraising effort for its Outreach Fund, St. Andrew’s also is conducting a festive auction the following day at The 1812 Farm in Bristol.
Admission to the “Evening for Community Outreach” on Saturday, May 16 costs $20 with tickets on sale at Skidompha Library, Maine Coast Book Shop and Cafe, and St. Andrew’s church office. All net proceeds from that event will also go directly to the 18 Outreach Partners that St. Andrew’s currently supports, including New Hope for Women, Spectrum Generations, the Haiti Fund, Habitat for Humanity, Big Brothers/Big Sisters and others. At the event there will be tasty hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar, desserts and lots of surprises.
For more information about this two-day event, call Ann Kash at the church office at 207-563-3533 or Steve Ward at 207-563-8191. To see the items that already have been donated for the May 16 auction, go to the church website at www.standrewsnewcastle.org and look for “Evening for Community Outreach.” A list of St. Andrew’s 18 Outreach Partners also appears on that same Web page.
