Call for Art: 'Abstract' at River Arts
River Arts in Damariscotta invites artists to submit work for a juried show of all abstract art. The theme Abstract showcases the strength and diversity of abstract art flourishing in Maine. The gallery is pleased to announce that the juror for this show will be well known artist, Barbara Brady.
Submissions are open now through the drop-off deadline: Saturday, Aug. 16 at 4 p.m. "Abstract" is open to all media, including but not limited to painting, sculpture, fiber, ceramics, photography, and mixed media. Artists may submit either two pieces (each no larger than 24 inches in any direction, including frame), or one larger piece (up to 50 inches in any direction, including frame). All artwork must be delivered in person to the gallery.
Entry forms are available at the gallery or may be downloaded from the website: riverartsme.org. Entry fees are $15 for members and $30 for non-members. All submitted works must be for sale and River Arts retains 35% commission on sold works.
Barbara Brady is a Maine-based artist with a BFA from Rosemont College and postgraduate study at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia. Following a 30-year career as an art director and graphic designer in publishing and healthcare on both coasts, she relocated to coastal Maine in 2001 and began painting full time.
Brady’s work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions across the country in galleries, museums, and cultural centers, and is held in private and corporate collections internationally. She has received an artist fellowship from the Heliker-LaHotan Foundation on Great Cranberry Island, and has completed artist residencies at the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica in Venice, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Ireland, and Great Spruce Head Island.
The exhibition will run Aug. 18 through Sept. 27 with an opening reception on Saturday, Aug. 23 from 2 to 4 p.m.
