The voters have spoken.

Both Wiscasset High School seniors Kayla Gordon and Maeve Carlson will move forward to the next step of the Hood Sportsmanship Scholarship contest. The first portion saw both seniors net enough votes by April 24 to advance to the interview stage.

Wiscasset has historically done well with the $5,000 Hood scholarship, as Briana Goud won the scholarship a year ago.

Scholarship winners must meet several requirements: They must keep a 3.0 or better grade point average while showcasing good sportsmanship on the playing field and they must have performed volunteer work in their communities.

Winners will be announced May 18. Each New England state will have three winners selected by a panel.
