Feed Our Scholars fundraiser a success
The spaghetti is eaten, the treasures have all gone to good homes, and the Wiscasset Feed Our Scholars Weekend Food Backpack Initiative coffers are over $3,000 richer thanks to all the fine business people of Wiscasset and beyond.
Because of everyone involved, 12 Wiscasset children with food insecurities will be eating weekend meals during the 2013/14 school year.
We would like to publicly thank Ames, Treats, and Kidz Closet for selling tickets, as well as for donating items for the Silent Auction. Thank you, too, to the many restaurants who donated gift certificates: Le Garage, Sarah’s (who also supplied the salad), Red’s Eats, Mike’s Log Cabin, Miss Wiscasset Diner, Hunter’s Breakfast, Sea Basket, Montsweag Roadhouse, Davis Island Grill, Marketplace Café, Thai Golden, Golden Wok, and Sully’s Incredible Dogs.
Also deserving a hearty thank you for Silent Auction donations are Animal House, Blissful Touch Skincare Therapy of Boothbay, Debbie Speed’s Zumba, Greg’s Used Auto & Service, Coastal Veterinary Care, Bridget Nery/Organize Your Life & Home, Papa Geppetto’s Toy Store, Peapod Jewelry, artist Melissa Hunnibel, Margot Stiassni-Sieracki for her gift bags and baskets, Sherri Dunbar’s Massage, the Harbor Theater, the Lincoln Theater, Mary & Chris Turner for their Sea Dogs tickets, Alan MacQueen and Morris Farm, Scanlan’s Sylvan Gallery, Del’s Delivery, Grover’s Tire & Auto, Debra Elizabeth’s, In the Clover, Second Hand, Etc., Sheepscot River Pottery, Cathy Pilgrim’s Avon, Eleanor & Anita’s Salon, Sproul’s Furniture, Frank Gallagher’s Floatworks, Seeds of Knowledge Education Center’s Summer Day Camp, and Darlene Terry’s Whimsical Years Photography.
Two Bridges Regional Jail education program deserves particular recognition for all the fine handiwork that was donated toward the cause. Many people went home with fine patchwork quilts, afghans, lap robes, hats, and other crocheted pieces, as well as an ever-popular Red’s Eats bird feeder and other woodworking items, proudly provided by the jail’s inmates, many of whom have a special perspective on the issue of childhood hunger.
Immense gratitude for all her fine video and social media abilities goes to Lee Arnott of Sweet Thunder Productions, who donated her skills to give the Initiative credibility. Not to be overlooked, thanks needs to be meted out to all the wonderful people who donated their time and dinner components, and particularly the wide array of desserts, allowing for every cent that was collected to be put towards purchasing food packets for kids suffering from food insecurity.
But don’t forget, the next fundraiser is just one month away. On Saturday morning, May 4, the Feed Our Scholars 5k Fun Run/Walk will be occurring on the off-road trail behind the Wiscasset Community Center located on Gardiner Road, Wiscasset. Sign-in time begins at 8 a.m., with race time at 9 a.m.
