Did you know a sailboat in Wiscasset harbor broke its mast at the bridge in a recent storm?
You did if you read it at wiscasset.gov, like I got around to doing in the hours before press time this week. The boat mishap is found in the harbor master's October report, released with other department heads' reports last week on the town's website as part of the packet for selectmen's Nov. 18 meeting.
The report said the boat had dragged its mooring, and the bridge stopped the boat.
Wiscasset's department head reports tend to be chock full of noteworthy and sometimes newsworthy items we might not have the staffing to develop into articles, at least not all of them, for sure.
But if you want to find out what most all the departments have dealt with and accomplished in the prior month, from the public safety and public works departments to economic development and the town's airport and sewer, and in some department leaders' cases, told in great detail, the reports await you.
By the time artificial intelligence's (AI) use surged online, social media consumption had hopefully gotten us used to the fact you cannot believe everything you read online, and that some of the most interesting stories posted are only pretending to be real.
If you want to keep it real, spend some of your screen time with us at boothbayregister.com, wiscassetnewspaper.com and penbaypilot.com. And then if you still have not had your fill of local goings-on and information, explore wiscasset.gov, wiscassetschools.org, alna.maine.gov and westportisland.gov. We use them often and appreciate the effort and funding area towns have put into them to make them user-friendly and informative.
Week's positive parting thought: The big, cold wind's saving grace is it is drying the November mud. And, out of superstition at this point, let's give a woohoo again this week to the winning New England Patriots!
