Marcia Janet Ross, 89, of Alna, died May 3, 2015 at the Hill House in Bath.

Born on July 4, 1925 in Nashua, New Hampshire, she was the daughter of Frank and Ida Angell.

Marcia attended Wiscasset Elementary School and graduated from Wiscasset Academy. Following graduation, she worked as a secretary at Mason Station in Wiscasset, Bath Iron Works and at Whitmore Feed in Wiscasset.

On June 22, 1946, she married Theodore (Ted) Bradford Ross. They lived in Alna in a home they had built from lumber off their own property. Together they owned and operated Ross Farm Eggs. In addition to their egg business, they grew vegetables and fruits to sell and to feed their family.

Marcia was involved in many community activities; she served on church boards and committees, was a long time member and local leader of the Knox-Lincoln County Women of Extension Service, and was a member and officer of the Sheepscot Valley Grange. For many years, Marcia was the secretary of the Wiscasset Alumni Association and served on the scholarship committee. She assisted with the Soil and Water Conversation tree and shrub sales and bus trips. The Ross family was the first family to host an American Field Service student at Wiscasset High School.

Marcia loved the ocean, animals of all kinds, gardening and growing plants, especially orchids. Sewing was another of her hobbies. She and Ted also enjoyed trips to Pennsylvania, Nag's Head, Florida and Ohio.

Besides her parents, Marcia was predeceased by her husband and her son, Neil T. Ross.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen "Betsy" Card and her husband, Don Card of Phippsburg; her nephew, David Gaecklein and his wife Nancy of Boothbay Harbor; nephew, Kenneth Gaecklein and his wife Sharon of Edgecomb; and five grandchildren, Nathan Ross and his wife Jessica Goodman of Cambridge, Massachusetts, Mark Ross and his wife Kayla of Arundel, Carrie Anne Card and her fiance Matt Bryne of Foxboro, Massachusetts, Christopher Card and his wife Jessica of New Hampshire, and Heather (Card) Valliere and her husband Sean of Kennebunk. She is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Vickie Tucker Ross Wilcox of Kennebunkport and Florida.

Many thanks to The Alna Store for their meal deliveries and to the kind staff at Hill House Assisted Living in Bath.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., on Saturday, May 9 at the Damariscotta Baptist Church. She will be laid to rest privately, next to her husband, in the Alna Cemetery.
