Nick Hinkley wins 40-lap precursor to Boss Hogg 150

With big race events happening this past weekend across the state, Wiscasset Speedway was still able to draw in a large crowd of both fans and drivers on Saturday, Aug. 23 for another action-packed Group 1 race program.
The first Brackett’s Market 4-Cylinder Pro race got off to a bit of a rocky start as multiple drivers tangled, including point leader Jaxson Moreside. Further cautions led to a start-stop effect in the racing action, but Adam Taylor came out on top once the field settled. He sailed into the victory while Chassidy Shorty and Max Parlin followed, completing the podium.
Rookie Ryan Neal took the heat victory and the early lead in the 30-lap feature for the Davis Erector Group 207 Crate Modifieds, pulling out to a full straightaway lead while Ryan Phillips and Bubba Pelton battled it out for second behind him. A late-race caution brought the field back together, which was the worst-case scenario for Neal. Multi-time winner Bubba Pelton got the edge on the restart, scoring the victory. Ryan Phillips and Ryan Neal (first career podium) completed the top 3 while Nick Hinkley, making his Crate Modified debut, finished fourth.
Veteran driver Charlie Colby set the pace for the majority of the 40-lap feature for the Norm’s Used Cars Pro Stocks, leading the first 30 laps of the race. A pair of late-race cautions made way for Nick Hinkley, who went door-to-door with Colby in the closing laps of the race. Hinkley was able to get around him, securing another feature victory and the points lead all at once. Jamie Wright followed, rounding out the top 3. Pro Stock race results are still unofficial, pending tire sampling.
Pete McCollet took the early lead in the 20-lap Kennebec Equipment Rental Thunder 4 Mini feature, but multi-time champion Zach Audet was right on his heels. Audet stole the lead away in the opening laps of the race and never looked back, scoring his 6th win of the season (the most of any driver at the track this season) while Kyle Willette and Shane Webber followed, completing the podium.
There were a lot of big movers in the 30-lap race for the Gosline Insurance Group Super Streets as many heavy hitters were forced to start at the tail-end of the field due to the weekly handicap. Noah Haggett shined over the course of the feature, using the outside line to his advantage as he moved up the leaderboard and eventually into the lead. He held onto it from there, picking up another win in the division. Calab Emerson-Mains (top finish this season) and Kevin Sherman rounded out the top 3.
Max Parlin charged through the field in the second 4-Cylinder Pro feature, overtaking the lead at halfway. He was able to hold off the competition in the laps that followed, securing the victory. Adam Taylor followed up his earlier win with a solid 2nd place finish while Jaxson Moreside successfully rebounded after destruction, ending the night with a 3rd place finish.
The night concluded with another 100-lap Enduro race, which reeled in an impressive 38 drivers. Only 2 drivers completed all 100 laps: Irving Doughty and Ben Audet. Doughty edged out Audet by a mere .304 seconds at the line, picking up the victory. Alison Glasier, who was the sole driver to complete 99 laps, rounded out the top 3.
The excitement is building as Wiscasset Speedway prepares for the annual Boss Hogg 150 on Labor Day weekend. The 2-day doubleheader event kicks off this Saturday, Aug. 30 at 3 p.m. with the Late Models, Modifieds, Roadrunners and the visiting New England Dwarf Car Series.
The weekend will conclude on Sunday, Aug. 31 with the coveted $10,000-to-win Boss Hogg 150, with an overall race purse of over $38,000. The racing action kicks off at 2 p.m. with a program that will also include the Strictly Streets and double features for the Crate Modifieds.
