Raffle features hand hooked rugs, artisan pottery
Winners of Sheepscot Valley Conservation Association’s (SVCA) 2013 fundraising raffle will be lucky indeed. First prize is a 28x48-inch primitive hand hooked rug valued at $2,000. Second prize is a set of four hand crafted cups and four salad plates valued at $350, and third prize is a 16x24-inch primitive hand hooked wool sampler valued at $250. Tickets are only $2 each or three for $5.
Beth Quivey, who created the hooked rugs, said, “I truly enjoy the process of hooking rugs, especially for a worthy cause. In this case, I wanted to design rugs that expressed the natural beauty of the Sheepscot Watershed.”
Quivey accomplished her vision with a detailed landscape on the larger rug that includes a blue heron, an eagle gazing from its perch atop a pine tree, and playful salmon in each of the four corners. Her smaller rug sampler has a single salmon swimming against the bright blue current.
The cups and salad plates that comprise the second prize were made by artisans from the Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts. Each is unique in color and design, making a very interesting collection. SVCA is grateful to Quivey and Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts for their generous contributions to the raffle.
Tickets are available at the SVCA office or by calling 207-586-5616. Volunteers will be selling tickets at Ames True Value Hardware and Supply, Route 1 in Wiscasset on Saturday, April 27, 8:30-11:30 a.m.; at Wizard of Odds & Ends Antiques in Alna Head Tide, on Saturday and Sunday, May 4 and 5, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; at the Knox-Lincoln Soil & Water Conservation District Plant Sale, Saturday, May 4 from 9 a.m. to noon; at the SVCA Yard Sale on Saturday, June 8 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and at many other venues throughout the summer.
