'Setting the Table': First class June 9
“Setting the Table” is the first of nine classes planned for the summer at Maine Art Gallery (MAG). This class is themed to complement the current exhibit, “Art to Table: Visual Sustenance,” and will be held Tuesday, June 9 from 9:30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.
As instructor Elizabeth Reed explains, “the same rules of perspective of a well-set table lend themselves to landscapes, interiors, and imaginary settings.” In addition to learning perspective, students will learn to design an interesting composition that “pushes their imaginations with color and pattern…beyond representation.”
Reed studied life drawing, painting, and print making at the University of Kansas and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Before moving to Maine, Elizabeth taught life drawing and painting at The Armory Art Center in West Palm Beach, The Boca Raton Museum School, The Coral Springs Museum of Art, and ArtServe in Ft. Lauderdale. Her work has been honored in local, national, and international exhibits. She combines her plein air and studio paintings with creative illustration projects and coordinates weekly open-studio life drawing at her Bristol studio.
The class will be held at the gallery and is generously sponsored by Red’s Eats. The deadline for signing up is June 4. For more details and to register, visit www.maineartgallerywiscasset.org/classes.
Other classes scheduled for the summer are: “Fundamentals of Outdoor Photography,” taught by professional photographer Jonathan Lavan on June 23; “Discover Your Inner Artist: A One-Day Drawing Workshop” with popular MAG teacher Kat Logan on July 8, followed by another class with Logan, “Drawing and Painting Our Feathered Friends” on July 9; “Composing with Color: Pastel and Mixed Media” and “Charcoal and Line Drawing: Drawing the Landscape” both with Jude Valentine, July 15 and 22; Chasing the Light,” a plein air watercolor class with Deena Ball on Aug. 4; and “Letting Loose with Tissue and Glue,” a collage workshop with Debra Arter on Aug. 18.
