Spaghetti supper kicks off fundraising for school trip
The public is invited to join family, friends and neighbors at the Woolwich Central School (WCS) Annual Community spaghetti supper. Proceeds from the dinner support the WCS 8th grade's five-day class trip to Washington, D.C., which takes place in June every year.
This year's spaghetti supper will be held on Saturday, May 4 from 4:30-6:30 p.m., at the Woolwich Central School, located at 137 Nequasset Road in Woolwich.
The evening is hosted by the seventh grade class and signals the beginning of their fundraising efforts for the 2014 trip. Part of the civics curriculum at WCS, the four-day trip features hands-on activities for students, including meeting with Maine's senators, laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and when available, a tour of the White House. The entire cost of the trip, which exceeds $20,000, is raised through private donations. Typically, students raise funds for over one year.
The spaghetti supper includes a generous meal of spaghetti with homemade sauce, salad, bread, dessert and beverage. Admission is $6 for adults, $4 for seniors, $3 for children under 12 and free for children under the age of 3. A family ticket is also available for $20. Tickets are available in advance from any seventh grader, or at door on the night of the supper.
In addition to the delicious food, the evening features a 50/50 cash raffle and silent auction. For more information, please contact Betsy Lane at Woolwich Central School at blane@rsu1.org or 207-443-9739.
