Students sharpen public speaking skills
Students from Wiscasset Middle School recently gained the opportunity to demonstrate their public speaking skills and take pride in personal accomplishments. On April 4 the students took part in a speech contest sponsored by Modern Woodmen of America.
Students competing in the contest shared presentations on this year’s topic “A Person Who Has Overcome.” The winners were Tyler Peaslee, first place; Brooke Carlton-Wagstaff, second place; Caleb Gabrile, third place; and Skyler Stickney, alternate.
Each of them received a plaque and a gold award pin, and their names will be engraved on the school’s speech contest plaque. Gold award pins were also given to the other 10 participants: Kaden Field, Saoirse Bogart, Shannon James, Kennedy Sprague, Samantha Myers, Clara Mugnai, Grace Wehrle, Corey Campbell, Grant Hefler and Skyler Stickney.
The three finalists will now compete in the Sheepscot Valley Regional speech contest April 30 at the Chelsea Elementary School.
